Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 02, Verse 20
English:
Na jaayate mriyate vaa kadaachin
Naayam bhootvaa bhavitaa vaa na bhooyah
Ajo nityah shaashvato’yam puraano
Na hanyate hanyamaane shareere
Sanskrit:
न जायाते म्रियते वा कदाचिन
नायम भूत्वा भविता वा न भूयः
अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोयम पुराणो
न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे
Oriya:
ନ ଜାୟତେ ମ୍ରିୟତେ ବା କଦାଚିନ
ନାୟମ ଭୂତ୍ଵା ଭବିତା ବା ନ ଭୂୟଃ
ଅଜୋ ନିତ୍ୟହ ଶାଶ୍ଵତୋୟମ ପୁରାଣୋ
ନ ହନ୍ୟତେ ହନ୍ୟମାନେ ଶରୀରେ
Selected word meaning:
na - never, jaayate - takes birth, mriyate - never dies, vaa - either, kadaachit - at any time, na - never, ayam - this (soul), bhutvaa - came into being, bhavitaa - will come to be, vaa - or, na - not, bhuyah - or is coming to be, ajah - unborn, nityah - eternal, shaasvatah - permanent, ayam - this, puranah - the oldest, na - never, hanyate - is killed, hanyamane - being killed, shareera - the body
Translation:
He (Soul) is never born nor dies. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, undying and primeval. He is not killed when the body is killed.
